Understanding Geotagging
Geotagging is the process of embedding geographical metadata such as latitude, longitude, and altitude into files like photos, videos, or documents. In cybersecurity, geotagging poses a risk when this location data is inadvertently shared, revealing the physical location of users, infrastructure, or sensitive operations. Adversaries can use this data for surveillance, reconnaissance, or targeting. Disabling location services or stripping metadata is a common countermeasure.
